Just-in-time manufacturing

The first edition of this book, Toyota Production System, published in , is the basis for this book. Not a single Toyota car is on the dreaded vehicles to avoid list published by Consumer Reports. Morgan J. M and Liker J. All rights reserved.

It seems that you're in Germany. We have a dedicated site for Germany. Authors: Pinto , J. This book explains the implementation of just in time JIT production in an industrial context, while also highlighting the application of various, vital lean production tools. Shifting the trade-off between productivity and quality, the book discusses the preparation stages needed before implementing a JIT system.

In manufacturing, speed to market and costs of production can make or break a company. Just in time JIT manufacturing is a workflow methodology aimed at reducing flow times within production systems, as well as response times from suppliers and to customers. JIT manufacturing helps organizations control variability in their processes, allowing them to increase productivity while lowering costs. JIT manufacturing is very similar to Lean manufacturing , and the terms are often used synonymously. Following the war, Japan lacked the cash to finance big-batch, large inventory production methods used by other developed countries.

Guided for an increasingly competitive market, companies have sought to attend consumer expectations by offering the best product, quality, flexibility, agility and cost effectively. Allied to information technology through e-procurement, using the JIT has boosted results. Practical results of this combination are presented in this paper, through a case study in a large multinational company in the food sector. Skip to main content Skip to sections.

Lean Production and Just in Time: A Case Study of the e-procurement Application

The terms lean manufacturing and "just in time," or JIT, are often used as if they're the same thing, but they aren't identical concepts. Just-in-time manufacturing is focused on efficiency, while lean manufacturing is focused on using efficiency to add value for your customer. It's not a question of either-or: Just-in-time manufacturing can be practiced on its own, or as one step in your lean manufacturing process. Before JIT was introduced by Toyota, most manufacturers kept large amounts of inventory available just in case they needed it. Taiichi Ohno of the Toyota corporation developed a production system of ordering parts in small quantities, based on short-term production cycles.

Toyota Motor Corporation's vehicle production system is a way of making things that is sometimes referred to as a "lean manufacturing system," or a "Just-in-Time JIT system," and has come to be well known and studied worldwide. This production control system was established based on many years of continuous improvements, with the objective of making the vehicles ordered by customers in the quickest and most efficient way, in order to deliver the vehicles as swiftly as possible. The Toyota Production System TPS was established based on two concepts: "jidoka" which can be loosely translated as "automation with a human touch" , as when a problem occurs, the equipment stops immediately, preventing defective products from being produced; and the "Just-in-Time" concept, in which each process produces only what is needed for the next process in a continuous flow. Based on the basic philosophies of jidoka and Just-in-Time, TPS can efficiently and quickly produce vehicles of sound quality, one at a time, that fully satisfy customer requirements. TPS and its approach to cost reduction are the wellsprings of competitive strength and unique advantages for Toyota.

- Quien es.
