A least square dummy variable corrected estimation first identifies over the — period, the lagged current account, unrequited transfer flows and government final consumption expenditures as the fundamentals of the current account balance.
On grounds of the fitted values of these explanatory variables, the projected medium-term—— period—current account deficits drift apart from the stabilizing current account deficits at external debt benchmarks, suggesting an increase of external debts over the medium term. The magnitude of adjustments in government final consumption expenditures to achieve the current account sustainability shows that the extent of adjustments is more important when the external debt benchmark is less than the WAEMU convergence norm.

With the blessing of WHO, the different regions of West Africa engaged in Pharmaceutical regulation harmonization processes on the continent. This study examined the monetary and macroeconomic stability perspective for entering into monetary union, using data available on WAMZ countries. It tests the hypothesis that independent monetary and exchange rate policies have been relatively ineffective in influencing domestic activities especially GDP and inflation , and that when they do, they are counter productive. Usiing econometric methods, regression result show that, erstwhile domestic monetary policy, as captured by money supply and credit to government hurt real domestic output of these countries.
The union was established on 28 May , with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos , with its stated mission to promote economic integration across the region. A revised version of the treaty was agreed and signed on 24 July in Cotonou. The ECOWAS also serves as a peacekeeping force in the region, with member states occasionally sending joint military forces to intervene in the bloc's member countries at times of political instability and unrest. All current members joined the community as founding members in May , except Cape Verde which joined in The Community Parliament consists of members, distributed based on the population of each member state.
