Pharmacokinetics, sometimes described as what the body does to a drug, refers to the movement of drug into, through, and out of the body—the time course of its absorption , bioavailability , distribution , metabolism , and excretion.

Population pharmacokinetic analysis and modeling procedures typically require estimates of both population and individual pharmacokinetic parameters. However, only some of these parameters are contained in models and only parameters in the model can be estimated. In this paper, we introduce a new R package, PKconverter, to calculate pharmacokinetic parameters using the relationships among them. After fitting the model, other parameters can be calculated from the functional relationship among the parameters.

Drugs are substances intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease. Drugs are given in a variety of dosage forms or drug products such as solids tablets, capsules , semisolids ointments, creams , liquids, suspensions, emulsions, etc, for systemic or local therapeutic activity. Drug products can be considered to be drug delivery systems that release and deliver drug to the site of action such that they produce the desired therapeutic effect and are also designed specifically to meet the patient's needs including palatability, convenience, and safety.

Pharmacokinetics from Ancient Greek pharmakon "drug" and kinetikos "moving, putting in motion"; see chemical kinetics , sometimes abbreviated as PK , is a branch of pharmacology dedicated to determine the fate of substances administered to a living organism. The substances of interest include any chemical xenobiotic such as: pharmaceutical drugs , pesticides , food additives , cosmetics , etc. It attempts to analyze chemical metabolism and to discover the fate of a chemical from the moment that it is administered up to the point at which it is completely eliminated from the body. Pharmacokinetics is the study of how an organism affects a drug, whereas pharmacodynamics PD is the study of how the drug affects the organism. These may affect the absorption rate.

Summary: The landmark textbook on the theoretical and practical applications of biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics-now fully updated. Practical problems and clinical examples with discussions are integrated within each chapter to help you apply principles to patient care and drug consultation situations. In addition, outstanding pedagogy, including chapter objectives, chapter summaries, and FAQs, plus additional application questions, identify and focus on key concepts. The book also helps you work with pharmacokinetic and biopharmaceutic parameters to design and evaluate dosage regimens of drugs. In the seventh edition of this must-have interactive learning tool, most of the chapters are updated to reflect our current understanding of complex issues associated with safe and efficacious drug therapy.

Despite more than 50 years of manned spaceflight, we still barely know if the medications that astronauts receive in space are as effective and safe as they are on Earth. The unique spaceflight environment may disrupt the physiological balance in astronauts, leading to alterations of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of therapeutic agents. To ensure that crewmembers receive efficacious and safe medications in space, it is critical to understand the unusual pharmacological responses of medications during missions.

Ein Vorschlag?
